Spring Sundays Wild and Holy

Women’s Spring Sundays: Magic song & ritual

Sunday mornings, 9-11, April 21-May 26,  plus Thursday May 2 6-8 pm. 7 sessions.

April and May are a busy time in the Slavic folk calendar. The spring winds, calling the birds, bringing the animals out to pasture for the first time, honoring the dangerous and generous spirit of spring waters, remembering and honoring the dead and the ancestors— each call for moments of observation and ceremony.

We’ll use traditional Eastern Slavic calendrical rituals and folk magic practices as our starting point, and will sing simple songs as part of our gatherings. We’ll work with spirits of field, forest, and sauna, pay homage to the magic of trees, flowers, and herbs, and create our own version of a traditional spring cleansing ceremony.

Sessions will take place on our farm. We will meet outside unless it is severe weather, then will meet inside the airy barn.
